Southend on Sea Music Festival – November 2014

Cantare were awarded the Freda Parry Presentation Bowl for the ‘most outstanding all-round choral performance’ in the festival.
The adjudicator Nicola-Jane Kemp made the following remarks:
Ladies Choirs Class – 89 marks

  1. Medley of Spirituals – Rhythmically incisive with good blend of voices and tidy text.  Dynamic control was impressive.  The ending was so well controlled and magical
  2. In Remembrance – A heartfelt performance with committed singing. The last meno mosso was delicately sung with good control of harmony and vocal tone – well done.

Premier Class for Choirs – 88 marks

  1. See the Gipsies – Rhythmic and energetic singing with good articulation and real verve.
  2. Seal Lullaby – An evocative opening. Melodic lines were highlighted and harmonies usually secure.  A moving performance that held your audience in thrall.  Very well done.

Southend-on-Sea Musical Festival - 24 November 2012

Awarded the Freda Parry Presentation Bowl for the most outstanding all-round choral performance. The adjudicator Gaynor Keeble made the following remarks:

Ladies Choir Class (92 marks) 
The Lake Isle of Innisfree
The moment  was spell-binding at the end which you all held. Very powerful.
The Wedding Ring
This was an extremely slick performance here from a very fine sounding choir.

Premier Class for Choirs (89 marks)
Dancing Song
This is very fast and you are still managing to control it.
Lark in the Clear Air
Again, immaculate tuning and lots of light and shade which is always beautifully controlled.  Another extremely enjoyable performance from this wonderful choir.

1. See the Gypsies: Terrific, electric start. Superb vowel sounds and intonation on obscure notes. Supported crescendos. Brilliant cut-offs!
2. May it be (Lord of the Rings): Real choral tone; Well-shaped phrases; Words consistent; Sensitive accompaniment.
